Our Board

The Role of the Board

The Board of Directors of Lake Country Community Legal Clinic is composed of volunteer members of the communities we serve.  The Members bring a wide range of experience and knowledge to the Legal Clinic.

The Board’s responsibilities include maintaining effective administration, ensuring sound financial management, overseeing a variety of personnel matters as well as policy development.  The Board works closely with the Executive Director to make sure the legal services provided are meeting the needs of the community.

The Board

Jean Beckett

(Parry Sound) Jean is an active volunteer in her community. She is currently the Co-Chair of the Clinic Board and President of the National Network for Mental Health. Jean also serves on boards and committees at both the regional and national level. She is involved with the hospital sector and grassroots organizations. She was a Founding member of RISE Resource Centre for Independent Living and was their Chair from 1993-2002. Jean has spent twenty years in the not-for-profit sector. She has provided front-line service delivery, staff supervision, program development and public education. During her time off she enjoys camping, and boating with her husband, two kids, seven grandkids and her dog, Bob.

Debbie Gerow

(Bracebridge) Debbie is the newest member of our Board. She was born and raised in Hamilton and moved to Muskoka 15 years ago. Debbie has a true commitment to our community and has volunteered for such agencies as the Fresh Food Basket and The Pines. Debbie has been involved with PROMPT (Poverty Reduction of Muskoka Planning Team) for the past year and is currently their Treasurer. She has a passion for genealogy and three grown children.

Kim Gerow

(Bracebridge) Kim joined the Board in 2008 and currently serves as Co-Chair. She is currently working and going to school aiming to become a nurse. She is a Mom and an active person in our community.

April Maksymchuk

(Parry Sound) April has been on the Board of Directors since 2006. She was a registered nurse for 42 years. April is also a volunteer, teaching people how to live with chronic illness. She sits on 3 other Boards in the Parry Sound Region and is a born advocate.

Linda McAughey

(Kearney) Linda is enjoying her retirement from the home health care system. She now enjoys reading, baking and hugging her dog, Daisy.

Lynanne McAughey

(Kearney) Lynanne has lived in Kearney for over 40 years. She enjoys living in a small community, but believes in equal access to all services. She joined the Board in 2013 and has taken on the role of Secretary . She enjoys reading, and making chain maille jewelry.

Pauline Plested

(Utterson) Pauline is a long-time member of the Board, joining in 2004. As a lifetime resident of Muskoka, Pauline's knowledge of her community is one of her strongest assets.

Valerie Tingey

(Gravenhurst) Valerie has been on the Board since 2005 and is currently serving as Treasurer. She grew up in Gravenhurst and graduated from BMLSS. Valerie returned to reside in Muskoka in 2005 and was involved in several community programs including the Relay for Life and Cottage Dreams. She resides in Gravenhurst with her two children. Valerie has her own law practice, Valerie J.T. Ferguson Professional Corporation Pro Law Solutions, and employs one lawyer and three law clerks. Valerie's main practice focus has been on family law and mediation but she has now branched out and expanded her practice to include real estate, wills and estates.

Carole Van Loan

(Gravenhurst) Carole joined the Board of Directors in 2008, took a short break and then returned in 2010. She enjoys a variety of interests including reading, writing, music and movies. She is presently working in the area and enjoys the Legal Clinic venue immensely. She returned to the Muskoka area after a forty year absence and has always considered it home.
